The sex offender works to control the child so he/she may sexually abuse him/her without fear of exposure to the parent or another caregiver. They may control the child through favors, guilt, threats and more.
Sex offenders puts themselves where he/she has easy access to children. They will work at gaining the trust of family members and their neighborhood or community. If a child charges the sex offender with abuse, it is often too difficult for families who love and trust this person to believe that he/she would abuse a child. This is exactly what the sex offender counts on.
